The Most Astonishing Business Class Experience | Qatar Airways’ Q-Suites
As a frequent traveler and aviation enthusiast, I often get asked to review various airlines and their onboard experiences! I want to highlight one airline’s cabin experience so grand that you’ll rush to book your flights by the end of this read.
Qatar Airways’ Q-Suites
We’ve all boarded a plane with an economy ticket. We walk on the jet bridge, pass the first-class seats, and stare, partly with regret for not booking them but also with admiration at how much more pleasant the flying experience appears in the upper cabins.
What if I told you that there exists a business class experience so superior that the plane doesn’t even have a first-class cabin?
Look no further than Qatar’s Q-suites, a luxurious business-class experience that pampers you with comfort and indulgence. I’ve experienced this service more than once, so continue reading as I provide the information you need to experience this luxury!
If you are looking for a Qatar Airways business class review, this is the post for you!
Before Boarding
You’ve heard of Qatar’s extreme commitment to excellent passenger service. With one of the most innovative modern fleets, flying with Qatar Airways is truly a remarkable experience. I don’t know where to begin.
Qatar offers extensive entertainment options, comfortable and spacious seating, and appetizing cuisine. Even an economy-class experience on Qatar Airways feels like luxury, but if you want to unlock a new level of magnificence, the Q-suite is the cabin for you. Click here for a 360 Q-Suite tour.
My first time experiencing the Q-suite was flying from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) to the airline’s home base, Doha’s Hamad International Airport, an award-winning airport that is a luxury experience as well!Â
This is an ultra-long haul flight, 14 hours to be exact, and Qatar Airways did an excellent job of keeping me comfortable before I even boarded the aircraft. Holding a business class ticket on Qatar Airways grants you access to American Airlines flagship lounge at DFW. These lounges offer personalized service, shower suites, and a welcome drink at check-in.Â
I loved this lounge. If you connect through Dallas-Fort Worth International (DFW) as I did, you’ll find this lounge in Terminal D between Gates D21 and D22. Qatar Airways departs from the D Gates at DFW, so it is a short walk to the gate after your lounge visit.
If leaving out of a different airport, Qatar Airways is a part of the OneWorld alliance, and their participating airport lounges can be found here. Lounge access is a flight privilege you should be using on every trip!
Boarding
Now, possessing a business class ticket means you board the plane first, and a lovely flight attendant will direct you to your suite when you do.
Onboard Experience
Once you get comfortable, your flight attendant will provide you with a welcome drink. You can select from a large assortment of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
After takeoff, someone will serve you a snack, a hot towel, and another drink of your choice. I know you’ll be too busy in awe of your suite, but check the menu near your entertainment screen because your first meal will be served approximately 30 minutes after takeoff.
No rush, though, because meal service is on request. That’s right. You can let the cabin crew know whenever you get hungry or thirsty. It’s truly a personalized service.
Of course, business class has dedicated restrooms. The bathrooms were even equipped with a window for viewing, and I had never seen this before. You’ll be provided an amenity kit in your seat should you need to freshen up. My favorite was the facial spray, a scented liquid you could use to cleanse your face if you don’t have hot towels; very refreshing.
When you are ready for a rest, your suite offers ambient mood lighting and complete privacy. If it’s not taxi, takeoff, and landing, you can close your Q-suite for seclusion. The cabin crew will offer a mattress pad to put on your seat, and you can press a button that will turn your suite into a lie-flat bed. Feel free to use your “Do Not Disturb” button and change into the pajamas provided in your suite.
When you awake, it will be time for another meal service if you are hungry. This is a great time to look at the interactive flight map with external camera views or watch a movie from Qatar’s Oryx One, which offers more than 4,000 entertainment options.
After your relaxing journey, you will arrive at your destination fresh and ready. If you deplane at Doha’s Hamad International Airport without a jet bridge, a dedicated business class passenger shuttle will await you.
I promise that Qatar Airways has thought of everything to make your journey memorable.
HOW TO BOOK THE Q-SUITE
If you haven’t already purchased a business class ticket or don’t have the necessary status for a complimentary business class, you’ll need to buy an upgrade. While free upgrades are rare, they do exist!
Check to see if economy class on your flight is overbooked. Remember, if you are polite, anything is negotiable. But paying to upgrade when you receive an upgrade offer from Qatar is worth it. There are three main ways to boost your experience from an economy ticket.
- Upgrade offer—If there is availability around two weeks before your flight, Qatar Airways will send you an upgrade offer. These offers are outstanding and usually less than the business class ticket price. This is your best chance of scoring an upgrade with seat selection included.
- On the mobile app, website, or phone – If you haven’t received the upgrade offer and it is approaching departure, contact a representative who can assist you.
- At the airport—While this is the least common way to get upgraded, I have seen it happen. At your departure gate, proceed to the counter and see what is available. People have also used their Avios (the point system Qatar Airways has adopted) points to secure an upgrade.

But if you can afford it, go ahead and book the business class ticket at least once. The experience is one you’ll be talking about for the rest of your life.
PLANES & ROUTES
Although Qatar Airways offers the most modern fleet in aviation, not all aircraft are equipped with Q-suites. Fortunately, when booking your flight with Qatar, the booking segments will have “Q-Suite” or “Q-Suite Layout” in parentheses next to the aircraft type, so you’ll know.
Q-Suites are currently offered on five aircraft types across both Boeing and Airbus products, with a potential 6th coming soon: Boeing’s soon-to-launch Boeing 777Xs.
All of the Airbus A350-1000s (A351)
Some of the Airbus A350-900s (A359)
Some of the Boeing 777-200LRs (77L)
Some of the Boeing 777-300ERs (77W)
All of the Boeing 787-9s, better known as Dreamliners (787)
*Note: LR and ER stand for long-range and extended-range.

Again, make sure you check your itinerary. You can always chat with a representative, and be sure to confirm your seat assignment at check-in.
Below are common routes (and flight numbers) currently operating on aircraft with Q-suite configurations. Keep in mind that aircraft routes and aircraft are subject to frequent change.
Dallas to Doha (QR 730)
Los Angeles to Doha (QR 740 & 742)
